The ‘host’ Unit could add members to their Unit through their Branch & membership number using the ‘add Unit member’ button in the Unit table view.

If it’s a single activity, creating a Project Patrol through programming will allow you to add individual member by their membership number to the activity.
Another method of sharing is to share a copy of the event to the other Unit/Group by exporting it and sending the file to them.
